Nowadays, infertility has become a buzzword. As per the ISAR (Indian Society Of Assisted Reproduction), around 1 out of 6 couples have difficulty in conception. And you will be surprised to know that 30% of infertility problems have been discovered due to male sterility. Although there are numerous causes of infertility, the key cause of this problem in men is low semen count and poor semen quality. Yes, it is absolutely true.

If you also have infertility issues, it is better to find the best health center for semen analysis tests in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Delhi, or any other city in India. The semen analysis test is nothing but a medical procedure that is carried to evaluate the volume & quantity of semen in males. It helps to identify doctors as the base cause of sterility in males.

Healthy semen contains approximately 40 million sperm per milliliter. If your semen count is up to this limit, then there is no issue. However, a low sperm count can hinder fertilizing a woman’s egg. It should not cause any problems for you if your semen count falls within this limit. In spite of this, a low sperm count can result in an unfertilized egg.

How Semen Tests Performed?

To know the quality and quantity of your semen, the physician will ask you for a fresh semen sample. The lab technician will provide you a cup and ask you to ejaculate in a private space. Some laboratories also collect semen samples directly from your home. However, you have to keep it at 25 degrees (room temperature) and provide it to the dedicated healthcare provider within 1 hour of ejaculation.

It is recommended not to use lubricants while collecting the semen as it can affect the mobility of sperms.

Some pharmaceutical brands have also launched home sperm check kits. However, they can only identify the sperm count. So, don’t rely on home test kits. For a complete analysis of semen, you need the help of a professional.

What Things To Avoid Before Semen Analysis Test?

  • Avoid sex and ejaculation atleast three days after the test.
  • Don’t devour alcohol and caffeine-rich drinks five days before the test.
  • Avoid herbal or hormone medications when planning to have tests.
  • Quit smoking seven days before sperm collection.

Following is the list of tests that are conducted during semen analysis:

  • Sperm Motility

Sperm motility is nothing but the ability of sperm cells to move efficiently in the right way. Low sperm motility decreases your chances of conception either naturally or through assisted technology. In addition, sperm molality can be affected due to excessive use of anabolic steroids.

  • Sperm Morphology

Sperm morphology tells about the shape as well as the size of the sperm cells. To achieve pregnancy, it should be between 4% to 14% NF. Many factors can contribute to the abnormal shape of sperms, such as genetic traits, exposure to toxins, etc. If your sperm morphology is found to be very low, your doctor will ask you to make some lifestyle changes and follow a balanced nutritious diet.

  • Sperm Count

As discussed above, this test also involves sperm count to evaluate the number of sperm cells present in every milliliter of semen.

  • Volume of Semen

The volume of semen is also analyzed during the semen analysis test. Generally, if the semen of one ejaculation is equal to half a teaspoon, then it is considered normal.

  • PH Level Of Semen

The next to come in row is the PH level of the sperm. The optimum PH level of sperm is between 7.2 and 8.0. If it increases or decreases from this limit, the chances of fathering a child become lesser.

  • Fructose Level

Fructose is a sugar that is naturally present in semen. And if the level of fructose is relatively low, there may be problems with the function of the seminal glands.

  • Liquefaction

Typically, semen is thickened enough when ejaculated from the penis. However, it liquefies after 20-25 minutes. If semen takes more than 30 minutes to liquidize, it is a sign of a problem.

In Final Words -:

According to the experts, the slightly negative report of sperm analysis doesn’t mean that an individual is permanently infertile. Instead, it helps find the root cause of infertility and helps physicians make the right treatment plan. If you are also experiencing the same problem, it is better to Google the “semen analysis test near me” and get it checked as soon as possible.
