The Different Types of Body Hair Removal Options That Exist Today

health

In Western countries, more than 90% of women remove their like and armpit hair. It is increasingly common for women to also remove pubic hair.

Removing unwanted body hair has a number of benefits. It can be a part of your regime for optimal health, helping to prevent bacterial intrusion in the armpits or public area. It also can help you look and feel sophisticated, improves your skin complexion, and can boost your confidence.

There’s a dark side to body hair removal, though. While on the one hand it can leave you feeling smooth and gorgeous, on the other it can be painful and lead to ingrown hairs and discomfort. The outcome depends on choosing the correct method for different types of body hair.

What’s the best hair removal technique for the different areas of your body? Let’s take a look.

Shaving

Shaving is a common body hair removal method. However, it is best used for leg, arm, and facial hair. For some people and in certain parts of the body, shaving can lead to ingrown hairs, particularly in the pubic region.

Plucking

It can be painful to tweeze or pluck body hair. If you only have a few hairs that you want to remove, though, it can be a good option. For example, if you find a few stray hairs on your face, you might find that plucking is the best way to deal with them.

On the other hand, if you have large areas to deal with, plucking is not the method you’ll want to use. This can lead to scarring and ingrown hairs, not to mention that it’s time-consuming and painful.

Depilatory Creams

Depilatory creams are also known as hair removal creams. These are creams that can be purchased without a prescription.

It’s always a good idea to read the labels because these products are not all the same. For example, some depilatory creams might be made to remove pubic hair and should not be used to remove hair from your faith.

It’s important to use these products properly. They work by dissolving the hair shaft. If you leave them on too long it can burn your skin.

People who have a history of getting allergic reactions should test the cream on a small area of their arm in order to make sure they do not have an allergic reaction.

Hot Waxing

One of the most popular ways to get rid of body hair is waxing. This convenient and quick way is considered the best hair removal method by many people. Unlike shaving, the hair is pulled out from the root, which means that the results last a lot longer.

There are two different types of wax that you can use. These are soft wax and hard wax.

Soft Wax Hair Removal

Soft wax adheres to both the hair and your skin. This means that when the wax is pulled off, the outermost top layer of your skin comes off, too. This makes it ideal for large areas like the arms, legs, and back.

This type of wax can be more affordable than hard wax and is faster and easier to use on large areas. If you want to remove leg hair in a way that way more convenient and effective than other methods, soft wax might be the way to go.

Hard Wax Hair Removal

Hard wax is often thought preferable for sensitive areas. Hard wax does not adhere to the skin, but rather adheres to the hairs themselves. This allows you to continue treating the same areas in order to make sure all of the hairs are removed without creating any damage to the skins

This type of wax hardens on your skin. This means that waxing ships are not necessary. Experts say that this type of wax is best for your underarms, bikini line, and face.

Laser Hair Removal

One of the longest-lasting methods of body hair removal is laser hair removal. However, because of the way that this technique works, it is most effective on dark hair.

Laser hair removal usually required at least four treatment that occurs 4 to 6 weeks apart. This can sometimes be a painful treatment and is often expensive. You’ll want to make sure that you find a technician or a doctor who is knowledgeable and highly trained.

Threading

This traditional Indian method for removing hair is sometimes offered at salons. Threading involves using strings that pull out unwanted hair by twisting them in a pattern.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a method where a tiny needle that has an electric current is placed in the hair follicle. The two main electrolysis hair removal methods are called galvanic and hemolytic. The former chemically destroyed the follicle of the hair, while the latter uses heat to destroy the follicle.

Medication

If you are unable to find a way to get rid of your body hair through these other methods, you might consider talking to your doctor to see if they have any advice. There are some prescription medications available that can slow hair growth in areas that you don’t want hair to be growing.

What’s Your Body Hair Removal Method of Choice?

As you can see, there is no shortage of options when it comes to getting rid of body hair. Different people might find that different methods work better or worse for them. That being said, certain techniques are more suited for larger, tougher areas of your body, while others are more appropriate for smaller, sensitive regions.
