Why the Neighborhood Should Affect Your Decision When Buying

Reasons that make a neighborhood desirable also raise the price of homes in that area. If you have come across this while searching for a home, you may need to take a step back and rethink your approach. Prioritizing your wants and needs during your home search will make the decision process much easier. You should also work with your realtor and get an idea of how competitive the housing market is in that area and know the steps to buy a house in particular neighborhoods.

Neighborhood safety is a very important factor when looking to buy a house, especially if you have children. The condition and price of any home can be changed. You can even change the size of the house. The one thing you can’t change is the home’s location. Below are a few reasons why the neighborhood should affect your decision when buying.

Schools

Most times a good school district = a good neighborhood. If you have children and you want to provide them with a top-notch education, you can buy a home in a better school district, or you could buy in a less desirable district and enroll your children in a private school. When it comes to resale value, investing in a home in a good-quality school district will pay off. Homes in good school districts tend to sell faster than homes in lower-quality school districts.

Nearby dog parks, playgrounds, walking trails

Pay attention to things like parks, open spaces, and trails. If the community is a homeowners’ association, find out what amenities are included in your dues, such as a pool, clubhouse, or gym. Check out the neighborhood’s walkability and car-free access to parks and other places of interest. Check out neighborhood Facebook groups and other social media sites to get a feel for the community’s vibe or any special events they host.

Commute

How long will it take to get to work? It’s a good idea to try the route during rush hour to find out whether it’s manageable. The reason so many people have long commutes is that you will find cheaper housing options. If you’re willing to commute 30 minutes to an hour, you may find a neighborhood where homes cost half as much as those in the city.

Amenities

How close are you to a grocery store, convenience store, cafes, and restaurants? Grocery stores, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, are some of the top amenities people are looking for when buying a home. Most buyers want these amenities within a 5-10 minute drive.
